Gaspard Cottance, A Visionary Formulator
Paris, 1863. Amidst the vibrant energy of the Second Empire, a bold young formulator embarked on a mission. Alongside his wife, Hortense, Gaspard Cottance grew deeply concerned about the hazards of popular cosmetics at the time. Inspired by emerging dermatological advances, he sought to create skincare products that were both safe and sensorially exquisite.
After years of research, combining artisanal techniques with scientific rigor, Gaspard Cottance patented a natural facial care formula—the first in cosmetic history to achieve global acclaim across five continents: Pommade Tangerine à la Rose. This marked the birth of modern facial treatment. Developed according to the House's three founding principles—Harmony, Proportion, and Elevation—it was meticulously formulated for unprecedented stability, bridging the gap between traditional expertise and contemporary standardized skincare.
Celebrated worldwide, Maison Cottance garnered four gold medals at international exhibitions from Melbourne to Paris to Brussels. The House was subsequently invited to serve on the jury of the prestigious Balance of the Centuryexhibition in Paris in 1900. The official report lauded its "exceptional capacity for innovation and major contribution to the advancement of French cosmetics and perfumery."
